Course

Social justice activists and advocates depend on a clear vision of the change they hope to effectuate and a coherent theory of how to achieve that change.  This course will begin with the articulation of your organization’s purpose and an exploration of your theory of change.  We will then introduce a range of tools to enable you to make strategic choices about how to build sufficient power and influence to drive change.

We will draw on the experience of participants to identify and experiment with some of the most effective strategic tools social change agents utilize to develop and execute their action plans.  You will learn about strategic planning, analytical skills to evaluate your organization’s strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats in the external environment, and the value of effective goal setting.

Finally, we will examine one of the most critical challenges of meaningful social change work: building powerful coalitions to advance your social justice agenda.
