In 2025, Tonya began working half her time as a staff writer for the ILR School and half her time supporting communications at ILR’s Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability.
In 2019, Tonya began working as a digital content editor for the Yang-Tan Institute. In this role, she edits the course materials for the Work Incentive Support Center; is a central figure in creating the institute’s newsletter; and edits content for several websites, including NortheastADA.org and DisabilityBenefitsAtWork.org. She also writes articles about the institute and assists with maintaining content on the institute’s website.
Prior to joining the institute, Tonya worked at TidBITS, an online publishing company and tech blog that she co-founded in 1990. At TidBITS, her most notable role was editor-in-chief of an ebook imprint about technology topics. She has also worked at Microsoft as a Word support engineer, edited books for Peachpit Press, authored/co-authored six books, and written dozens of articles for publications such as Macworld and BYTE. In her early career, Tonya worked for Cornell Information Technologies, supporting computing with NeXT workstations and Macintosh personal computers.
Tonya has a BS in Communication from Cornell University.
