  • In 2012 launched the Headstrong Project, a nonprofit that provides mental health care to veterans.
  • In 2014 founded Task & Purpose a digital media company that provides news to veterans, military members, and the general public.
  • Founded Hirepurpose, a company that provides jobs for veterans, military members, and family members.

Work Related Proposals (gleaned from Candidate website):

  • Use the pension fund’s Economically Targeted Investments to seed a dozen $500 million social impact funds to invest in the city; funds will focus on various sectors such as affordable housing, small businesses, arts, and finance.
  • To spur creative activity, fund artistic and cultural institutions throughout the City.
  • Establish a $20 billion Social Impact Bond to retrofit 50,000 City owned buildings to reduce energy costs, which will help bring 150,000 jobs to the City and fight climate change.
  • Proposes that anyone wanting to do business with the City must provide memo detailing their commitment to the City, with an emphasis on ensuring that businesses that start in or move to the City have a dedication to helping NYC residents and hiring them.
