Tung Nguyen is a public policy professional with experience in cannabis policy, Indigenous government relations, and justice sector policy. Currently, Tung is an Extension Policy Associate with the Labor and Employment Law Program at Cornell University's School of ILR. He works to support the development and delivery of extension programming, applied research, policy initiatives, technical assistance, and stakeholder engagement activities that advance the School's mission of improving workplaces and employment outcomes. His work primarily supports the Cannabis Workforce Initiative and the Criminal Justice Employment Initiative, focusing on research translation, policy development, workforce strategies, and collaborative partnerships that promote equitable employment opportunities and evidence-based labor and employment policies.
In his previous role as a Senior Policy Analyst with the Cannabis Secretariat in the Government of British Columbia (Canada), he led complex policy initiatives to advance government-to-government collaboration with First Nations on cannabis governance, including retail licensing, enforcement, taxation, and regulatory policy. His work included providing strategic policy advice to senior executives, conducting legislative and jurisdictional analysis, coordinating cross-government initiatives, and engaging with Indigenous governments, federal and provincial agencies, industry representatives, and other partners to support evidence-based policy development.
Additionally, Tung worked on the Policing and Public Safety Modernization Initiative within the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Government of British Columbia (Canada), where he conducted policy research, led stakeholder engagement, and supported community relations to strengthen partnerships among government, Indigenous communities, and external stakeholders.
Tung holds a Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management from Vancouver Island University (Canada).
