As a Policy and Research Associate in Cornell ILR’s Labor and Employment Law Program, Tung Nguyen analyzes emerging legal and policy issues affecting labor and employment, with a focus on advancing fair-chance hiring and equitable workforce development for justice-impacted individuals. His work primarily supports the Cannabis Workforce Initiative and the Criminal Justice & Employment Initiative, focusing on policy development, applied research, workforce strategies, and collaborative partnerships that promote equitable employment opportunities and evidence-based labor and employment policies.
Prior to joining ILR, Tung worked as a Senior Policy Analyst with the Cannabis Secretariat in the Government of British Columbia (Canada) and led complex policy initiatives to advance government-to-government collaboration with First Nations on cannabis governance, including retail licensing, enforcement, taxation, and regulatory policy. His work included providing strategic policy advice to senior executives, conducting legislative and jurisdictional analysis, coordinating cross-government initiatives, and engaging with Indigenous governments, federal and provincial agencies, industry representatives, and other partners to support evidence-based policy development.
Additionally, Tung worked on the Policing and Public Safety Modernization Initiative within the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Government of British Columbia (Canada), where he conducted policy research, led stakeholder engagement, and supported community relations to strengthen partnerships among government, Indigenous communities, and external stakeholders.
Tung holds a Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management from Vancouver Island University (Canada).
