Employment and Disability: Issues, Innovations and Opportunities

New Book by ILR Disability Experts Published

“Employment and Disability: Issues, Innovations and Opportunities,” written by Yang-Tan Institute disability experts, was published this fall by the Labor and Employment Relations Association.

The book is intended to inform readers about progress and challenges in the field. “You will see how the United States, other countries and businesses today are responding proactively to move the needle on employment disparities for individuals with disabilities,” said Susanne Bruyère, director of the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability.

“In light of the continuing employment disparities and the rapidly changing workplace resulting from globalization and technology intensification, we have selected topics on continuing and emerging issues and opportunities for improving employment,” Bruyère said.

The K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability provides education, advocacy and technical assistance to organizational professionals, governing agencies and others in partnerships to overcome obstacles preventing equitable access to full workforce participation.

“The shared models of new access and opportunities are intended to inspire new endeavors for disability inclusion,” said Bruyère.

Associate Professor Ariel Avgar, ILR associate dean for outreach and sponsored research, facilitated an event featuring six discussants:

  • Linda Barrington, associate dean of external relations at Cornell SC Johnson College of Business
