Sponsors will identify their reporting requirements in the award terms and conditions. Sponsor due dates for all reporting requirements must be met. Failure to submit complete, accurate, and timely reports may result in:

  • Increased oversight of the project by the sponsor
  • Temporary withholding of payments
  • Additional prior approval requirements imposed on the award
  • Denial of continuation funds
  • Suspension or termination of the award

Financial Reporting

Financial Reporting

A financial report is an accounting of expenditures and obligations incurred on a sponsored project during a specified time. While Sponsored Financial Services (SFS) may request assistance from the SRO, only SFS is authorized to submit an official financial report to the sponsor.

If the sponsor has requested an informal, interim financial report or projections, send an email to ilr_sponsored@cornell.edu with the project's OSP# and "Financial Report Request" in the subject line. The SRO will determine whether the request requires SFS involvement.

Progress Reporting

Progress Reporting

Sponsors may require PIs to submit progress reports, which identify the accomplishments the project has made during a specified time period. Additionally, most sponsors require a final progress report at the end of the project. Sponsors may refer to progress reports by a variety of names, including:

  • Performance reports
  • Project reports
  • Technical reports
  • Annual reports

PIs are responsible for preparing and submitting progress reports. The SRO may assist with updating the submission date in RASS for these reports.
