ILR students participating in an international experience

Study Abroad

Each year, nearly 100 ILR students take advantage of study abroad opportunities to increase their academic, personal, and global perspectives.  ILR students can choose to study abroad either through an ILR-managed program or an ILR-approved program through the Office of Global Learning.  Programs vary in focus, design, and credit transfer.  For semester programs, students pay standard Cornell tuition plus related program fees, and financial aid awards apply to approved semester programs.  ILR also has two special funding opportunities for select semester programs that only ILR students can apply for: the Grindlinger Award for academic activity in Australia and the Brettschneider Award for study at Oxford (especially Pembroke College and New College).  Speak with the ILR study abroad advisor for more details.

ILR Exchange

An ILR exchange program is a unique study abroad opportunity with a specific ILR international partner university and is only open to ILR students.  Our partner institutions offer courses that are similar to ILR's, which allows students to apply the majority of their coursework taken while on exchange towards their ILR elective requirements.  Students can earn up to 15 ILR elective credits for approved coursework.

Office of Global Learning

The Office of Global Learning administers non-ILR managed semester- or year-long study abroad programs (whether through direct enrollment, third-party providers, or Cornell-managed programs). Many of these programs are approved by ILR and are available to choose from depending on students' academic goals and interests.
