What originally drew you to the MILR program at Cornell?
What originally drew me to the MILR program was a combination of the community and the school’s reputation. Every person I spoke to before arriving was kind, helpful and so excited about the program that I knew my passions would be aligned with my peers here at Cornell. Furthermore, the reputation and career trajectories of alumni made me confident in the recruitment and educational opportunities as a MILR.
What is your favorite part of the MILR program?
My favorite part of the MILR program is the people. From educators, to our career service team, to my cohort, I feel so supported and intellectually stimulated. I have loved learning and growing in a place where the people around me bring different perspectives, but are all ambitious and driven. I’m very grateful to have a sense of community, especially after moving so far away from home.
How has the program prepared you for the next step in your career?
The real-world examples and practice assignments/projects I’ve done over the course of this semester are some of the most hands-on learning I have done in my education thus far. Our professors are not only passionate about their topics, but are passionate about class engagement. The Bundle project also weaves topics beautifully across our courses to adequately prepare us for current HR business problems. Lastly, the networking and connection opportunities facilitated through the MILR program have already shaped me as a business professional and what it means to be a future leader.
What is your favorite class, and why?
My favorite class is Talent Analytics (taught by John Hausknecht). I have learned so much over these last few weeks about turning raw data into meaningful insights and actionable conclusions. The in-person labs aid my understanding of the conceptual work and are an amazing way to learn how to approach HR from a more analytical mindset. 10/10 recommend taking the class if you get the chance!
What tips would you give to incoming MILR students to make the most out of the program?
The best tip I could give to incoming MILR students is to be present and engaged! You will get the most out of the classes you participate in and are willing to put in the work for. The same applies to events on campus–there are so many amazing seminars and speaker events to attend. It’s a great place to be a part of what interests you.
Where will you be interning this summer?
This summer I will be with KPMG as an HR Intern in New York City! I’m very excited and can’t wait to start the internship.
