What originally drew you to the MILR program at Cornell?
What initially drew me to the MILR program at Cornell was the networking opportunities, the reputation of the program, and the alumni network. After I met current students in the program, though, I discovered how knowledgeable, kind and helpful everyone in the MILR program was and could see myself fitting into the community.
What is your favorite part of the MILR program?
My favorite part of the MILR program is the people. I have made lifelong friends who are all from different backgrounds, and I have grown so much through my friendships as both an HR professional and an individual. From preparing for interviews or struggling with an assignment, I can count on my cohort to lean on with any questions or concerns.
How has the program prepared you for the next step in your career?
Before coming to the MILR program, I had no clear path or plan for my career. I was working in law, and I felt disconnected from the profession I was in, with no clear vision for personal future growth opportunities. Now, through my time in the program, I have discovered my passion for HR and have a clearly-defined path into the future. There are endless possibilities for career growth through the MILR degree, allowing me to improve as a professional and define how I can thrive in a field that I genuinely enjoy.
What is your favorite class, and why?
My favorite class has been Human Resource Management. During this class, I have learned practical information about how HR functions in a company, but I have also gained hands-on experience with projects and teamwork activities. From the class team assignments, I have grown my leadership skills and my communication skills, which will be vital as I go into my summer internship and beyond.
What tips would you give to incoming MILR students to make the most out of the program?
Tips I would give to incoming MILR students to make the most out of their experience is to firstly connect with your cohort. These are the people you will be leaning on and learning from for the next two years, so it is important to forge friendships, socialize, and network with them. They can be a source of comfort and help during times of celebration, and during times of hardship. Secondly, I would recommend working hard in your classes and getting to know your professors, but experiencing Ithaca. Go on a trip to Niagara Falls. Go to the apple orchard. Go on a hike with friends. Ithaca is a beautiful place, and there are a lot of activities to do to relieve your stress from classes and create memories you will cherish forever.
