I study consent, compliance, and privacy violations within organizations and society. In my research, I distinguish consent from compliance to examine when, why, and how organizations can go beyond merely securing employees’ compliance to ensure that when employees do comply, they feel that they are doing so consensually. An area of particular interest in my research on the distinction between compliance and consent is privacy violations in organizations.

Central to my research are critical organizational outcomes, such as commitment, job satisfaction, autonomy, empowerment, and perceptions of fairness, trust, and organizational support. I examine the impact of securing (or failing to secure) employees' felt consent on these outcomes and design interventions organizations can use to secure voluntary consent––not merely compliance or acquiescence––with organizational requests and terms of employment.
