Santos Rodriguez
Santos Rodriguez is the Chief of Staff for the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York & Vicinity (NYC BCTC). In this role, he is entrusted with collaborating with the NYC BCTC team, engaging with the NYC BCTC Executive Board, and building connections with pre-apprenticeship programs, apprenticeship programs, community groups, organizations, and various stakeholders. His scope of responsibilities extends to coordinating communication with BCTC affiliates to implement strategic initiatives and actively contribute to BCTC's lobbying efforts.
Prior to joining the NYC BCTC, Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local #12, working as an apprentice and then journeyman for Local # 12 signatory contractors. During his tenure at Local #12, Mr. Rodriguez served in several capacities including Organizer and Political Director, accumulating valuable experience. Mr. Rodriguez is the youngest ever person to be appointed as a full-time officer of Local #12. In these roles, he was responsible for organizing workers and promoting opportunities for union and non-union tradespeople to work in a safe environment that provides fair wages, benefits, and representation.
Mr. Rodriguez is a graduate of Project Pathways, later renamed The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, an apprenticeship preparation program that provides New York City public high school students and other residents the opportunity to enter apprenticeship programs jointly sponsored by BCTC affiliates. He continues his apprenticeship program involvement with Construction Skills and currently serves as the organization’s Community Liaison.
Beyond his role at NYC BCTC, Mr. Rodriguez also serves as a board member of several organizations including, NYS Democratic Executive Committee, At-Large Member and Chair of the Hispanic Caucus, Chair of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Neighborhood Services, Government Affairs Professionals (GAP), Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), Workforce Development Institute (WDI) and SOMOS Inc (Somos New York). Mr. Rodriguez also sits on several NYSERDA committees, where he is engaging in progressing the green economy in collaboration with other stakeholders. He also works with the NYC Mayors Capital Taskforce along with NYC EDC Offshore Wind Advisory Council.
His dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed, as elected officials, community members, and labor organizations have acknowledged Mr. Rodriguez for his contributions to supporting a robust middle class. Outside of his professional commitments, Mr. Rodriguez is a family man, married, and a proud parent of two wonderful children.
