Austin Smith

Co-Lead on the Healthcare Justice Committee (HJC) at UnidosMN

Austin works as a bedside emergency room nurse in Minneapolis, MN. He also serves as Co-Lead on the Healthcare Justice Committee (HJC) at UnidosMN, an immigration rights organization based out of the Twin Cities. His team facilitated hospital know-your-rights trainings for over 1,000 clinicians, focusing on preserving patient dignity and access to care during ICE’s Operation Metro Surge. With the support of multiple hospital labor unions, HJC also led a grassroots effort to create and implement hospital policies that protect the rights of patients who are in federal agent custody, as well as the medical staff caring for them.
