J.J. Popio

National Organizer, Utility Workers Union of America

J. J. Popio joined the Utility Workers Union of America in 2006 at 18 as a Meter Reader, advancing to Technician. Around 2010, his dedication to worker advocacy led to roles such as Steward, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Diversity Council Co-Chair. He was elected as a District Rep in 2017 and to a Local Union Executive Officer position in 2019. Popio has represented Local G555 at UWUA National Conventions and Ohio AFL-CIO Conventions. In 2019, J. J. was a founding Board Member for the Northeast Ohio Worker Center. He currently serves on the Tri-County Regional Labor Council Executive Board and as VP of Tri-County Union Label. In the spring of 2025; UWUA President James Slevin appointed him to the National Staff as an Organizer, advocating for utility workers nationwide.
