Melissa Harter

Melissa Harter is a proud West Virginia native and the newly appointed Organizer for the Utility Workers Union of America. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sustainability & Environmental Compliance, reflecting her dedication to building a cleaner and more sustainable future for both workers and the environment.

Melissa spent 17 years working in a coal-fired powerhouse, where she gained first-hand knowledge of the utility industry and a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by utility workers. As a long-time union member and member of her local’s Executive Board, she has been actively involved in advocating for fair treatment, safe working conditions, and the rights of her fellow workers. Her transition into an organizer role allows her to combine her technical expertise with her passion for labor advocacy.

When she’s not working or studying, Melissa enjoys hiking and exploring the underwater world through scuba diving. She is committed to empowering workers, fostering solidarity, and creating meaningful change in the utility industry.
