Overview

Tyler serves as a Lead Technical Consultant in the Technology Services unit at the ILR School, where he is the primary point of contact for technical support and helpdesk services. Since joining ILR and Cornell University in October 2024, Tyler has focused on resolving the hardware and software challenges that faculty and staff encounter in their daily work and research. Whether through one-on-one consultations, walk-in support, or a remote session, he provides the technical support that allows the ILR community to focus on their core mission and research.

In his role, Tyler is responsible for provisioning and imaging machines, ensuring that workstations are correctly set up and equipped with the necessary software for each user. He handles the administration of system permissions and provides specialized troubleshooting for hardware failures and technical obstacles. To assist the school with adopting new technology, Tyler writes comprehensive knowledge base articles on a variety of software and platforms. He also works on innovative solutions to streamline departmental processes, utilizing Python programming and exploring emerging AI tools to improve day-to-day efficiency within the ILR School.

Tyler came to Cornell following a 13-year career in broadcast engineering and IT at Lilly Broadcasting (WENY-TV). During his time as Director of Engineering, he managed critical on-air systems and station automation within a complex hub-and-spoke operation, broadcasting channels to Pennsylvania and the Caribbean. He also worked on a similar hub-and-spoke setup for KITV in Hawaii, where news was broadcast locally from the station. His experience includes working with cable head-ends and network operation centers for ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and FOX. Notably, he has developed a custom client-server streaming service using Python and Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) that remains an active part of the station’s infrastructure today. His transition to higher education was driven by a desire to apply this extensive troubleshooting expertise and innovation toward helping people directly in a mission-driven environment.

Tyler holds an Associate degree in New Media from Tompkins Cortland Community College. Outside of the office, he continues to experiment with Python programming and application design. He is also a musician who enjoys writing and producing music in his spare time.
