Ibe Jonah is an experienced educator, coach, and administrator with a diverse background spanning competitive debate, teaching, grant writing, and event management. He currently serves as a vital pillar of the Cornell University debate community, where his coaching has propelled multiple generations of Cornell debaters to the highest echelons of regional, national, and international competition. Under his guidance, the Cornell Worlds British Parliamentary (BP) Debate Team recently completed an exceptionally successful season, securing the USUDC Novice Championship title, finishing as Open Grand Finalists, and achieving a historic streak of advancing to the elimination rounds in every tournament they entered. Ibe’s international coaching footprint extends to the World Universities Debate Championship (WUDC) tournaments in Spain, Vietnam, and Bulgaria, where his students have consistently excelled against the world's premier academic institutions.
Deeply committed to impactful educational outreach, Ibe bridges the gap between higher education and the community by teaching and mentoring students both at Cornell and within local high schools. His dedication to fostering critical thinking, intellectual maturity, and global ambassadorship earns him consistently stellar evaluations from his students. Beyond the debate floor, Ibe’s passion for community and healthy competition carries over to his love for soccer—a sport he appreciates for its unique ability to bring people of diverse backgrounds together.
Ibe holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from Queens’ University and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Public Policy from the University of Port Harcourt. His academic background fundamentally informs his approach to cultivating inclusive, high-achieving student environments.
