ILR – Poised for the Future

Robert McKersie

Robert McKersie, ILR’s dean from July 1971 through August 1979, was interviewed by Dean Alex Colvin  about his experiences as the school’s leader and about his thoughts on ILR’s future impact on work, labor and employment.

In this video, McKersie recounts how ILR responded to workplace changes in the 1970s and discusses with Colvin how  workplace issues around inequality, new technology and other issues are the kind of challenges ILR is addressing.

Now based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, McKersie remains active in the field. In 2019, he wrote a book, “A Field in Flux: Sixty Years of Industrial Relations,” published by Cornell Press.
