Announcement of Equity in Focus: Building a Diverse, Inclusive Clean Energy Workforce webinar

Join us for a webinar on creating equity in the emerging clean energy workforce

The push towards a net-zero emissions economy will give rise to over 15 million jobs in the clean energy workforce. How can we ensure that these jobs are high-quality, union jobs and that those who are most vulnerable to climate change have equitable access to these jobs?

June 29th’s webinar will explore how when dealing with the crisis of climate change, the US can guarantee that women and communities of color who are on the frontlines of climate change are protected and accounted for through the creation of high-quality union jobs.

To mitigate climate change, the US will need to transition to a net-zero economy by 2050. This transition will create historical economic, labor, and employment changes.

These historical changes coincide with the growing inequality of disadvantaged communities brought about by the pandemic and structural forces. This webinar will bring together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to discuss and share current research along with their expertise in creating a just clean energy economy that fights against this growing inequality. The panel will discuss local and state governments that have been successful in creating equity in job creation.

The speakers will include Wendy Chun-Hoon, the Director of the Women’s Bureau in the U.S. Department of Labor, Alexander Colvin, the Dean of the ILR school, Amy Peterson, Senior Advisor Industry Relations of the Loan Programs Office (LPO) of the U.S. Department of Energy, April Sims, the Secretary-Treasurer of the Washington State Labor Council, Allison Ziogas, the U.S. Labor Relations Manager at Ørsted, and Lara Skinner, the Director of Labor Leading on Climate at Cornell.

The webinar will be co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau and the Cornell ILR Worker Institute. The webinar will begin at 12:30 PM EST.
