Randi Weingarten ’80, one of the nation’s foremost labor leaders, was reelected president of the American Federation of Teachers on Sunday at its convention in Boston.

This is Weingarten’s eighth term leading the 1.7 million-member organization representing pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state and local government employees; nurses and health care workers; and early childhood educators.

First Lady Jill Biden, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh were among speakers at the event.

Weingarten,  a leader on campus during her ILR School undergraduate years, has participated in many LR events, including a podcast discussion and an eCornell Keynote, both with Alexander Colvin, Ph.D., ’99, the Kenneth F. Kahn ’69 Dean and the Martin F. Scheinman ’75, M.S. ’76, Professor of Conflict Resolution.
