UCD’s student health services provides comprehensive, on-campus medical, psychological and psychiatric care to registered students.

Appointments

All consultations with doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists are strictly by appointment except in the case of emergency. Appointments can be made in person or by phone at: 716-3113 or 3143.Depending on demand, there may be a waiting time of a few days non-emergency appointments.

Location/Hours

The Student Health Service is located on the first floor of the Student Centre Building. The Health Service is available Monday-Friday from 9:30AM-12:30PM; 2:00-4:30PM. Early morning appointments are available at 8:30AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Evening appointments are available on Monday & Thursday from 5:00-6:30PM.

Costs

Current charges at the Student Health Service are: €25 to see a doctor, €10 to see a nurse and €40 to see a psychiatrist. There are no charges for student counseling.

Emergencies

Emergencies receive priority and are dealt with immediately by the doctors and nurses during normal hours. For after-hours emergencies, please contact EASTDOC or CONTRACTORS or go to the nearest hospital’s Emergency Room. (St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Elm Park can be used for any acute emergencies). Ireland’s emergency phone number (911 equivalent) is 999 or 112.

Nurse Consultations

The nurses in the Student Health Service offer a walk-in service Monday-Friday from 9:30AM to 12:00PM & 2:00-4:00PM. The nurses will assess any students presenting with urgent medical problems and refer them if necessary to the doctor on duty.

Dental Treatment

There is no dental service attached to the Student Health Service and dental treatment is relatively expensive in Ireland. Students are advised to have a check-up before departing for Dublin. If dental treatment is required, please ask the Student Health Service for the name of a local dentist.

Confidentiality

All medical consultations are strictly confidential and no information with be shared without the patient’s permission.
