I am a plaintiff employment attorney. I represent individuals who are victims of discrimination in their places of employment. My clients allege discrimination based on race, religion, gender, color, age, and having a criminal record among other things. Additionally, I represent individuals who were not paid their wages by their employer, which unfortunately happens far too often.

Job opportunity: I have a small law office consisting of myself and a part-time attorney and currently 1 1/2 support staff. As a result, you will have an opportunity to see almost everything that a law practice has to offer. You will interact with clients, assist with the factual and legal development of a case, screen potential clients, attend court proceedings, possibly attend depositions and generally just help in the office. There are many opportunities to have a meaningful experience in a small and hectic law practice.
Minimum qualifications: My office is located near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Basic computer competence is needed.

Berke-Weiss Law PLLC is a boutique law firm in midtown Manhattan, which focuses on all aspects of employment law, including negotiating employment contracts and severance agreements, providing advice and counsel on workplace policies and procedures, conducting workplace investigations and training, and litigating claims of sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination, Family Medical Leave Act issues including pregnancy, and non-competition agreements, and wage-hour issues before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. Laurie Berke-Weiss, the principal of Berke-Weiss Law, is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Job opportunity: The intern will work closely with the firm's lawyers. Typical assignments may include creating and reviewing documents related to cases, utilizing Westlaw and the Internet for legal research, maintaining client and subject files, and interacting with clients.
Minimum qualifications: Some experience with legal research, ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, and ability to maintain confidentiality concerning client matters is a must. Job opportunity: This unique internship for ILR juniors and seniors is designed by ILR alumni for those students who may be interested in a career in labor and employment law and will benefit from a practical overview of the labor and employment law field. We will select three students to work in Morgan Lewis’s Labor and Employment Practice in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or New York City. Each applicant must specify his or her preferred location, in order of preference. The internship program includes: • Two-week paid internship ($600/week) • Introduction to attorneys who will provide overviews of practice areas, including: • Defense of individual and class action discrimination claims • Labor-management relations matters • Department of Labor regulatory issues • Wage and hour lawsuits, including nationwide collective actions • Employee benefits litigation • Immigration law • Employer training programs. Our three interns will spend their first day in Philadelphia receiving an overview of the various practice area specialties. The New York and Washington, D.C. interns will travel to Philadelphia by train accompanied by a Morgan Lewis attorney and will return home at the end of the day. The remaining portion of the internship program will involve a specific assignment dealing with timely legal issues as well as interaction with labor and employment attorneys in their offices, including “shadowing” where available.
