We invite you to participate in a monthly series of workshops promoting a problem-solving approach to labor-management conflict. Heightened workplace conflicts in recent years has involved more frequent strikes and disputes concerning issues such as workloads, staffing, scheduling, and health and safety matters. In many cases these disputes are intensified by the lingering effects of the pandemic. While conflict is an inevitable aspect of worker-management relations, our problem-solving approach recognizes that conflict can be excessive and produce outcomes that are costly to both labor and management.
In these free workshops, faculty of the Scheinman Institute of the ILR School will address the sources of conflicts and examine cases that reveal effective methods to minimize the occurrence and costs of workplace conflicts. Starting in October, monthly workshops will most often be held virtually with one in-person clinic style workshop focused on skill development taking place in mid-November (at the ILR conference center, 570 Lexington Ave, NYC).
The workshops, whether virtual or in-person, will be highly interactive. While faculty will offer frameworks that help clarify the sources of conflict and conflict resolution mechanisms, the workshops will include much discussion of the specific practical issues being faced.
Below is a listing of the monthly workshop series with brief descriptions of each workshop.
