
Worlds Team Succeeds in Back to Back Tournaments
A large contingent of the Cornell Worlds Team traveled to the Colgate IV and Robert Huber Debates over two consecutive weekends

At the Colgate IV on April 23rd and 24th, the Worlds Team attained remarkable results, with 9 Cornell teams and 5 Cornell judges in attendance.
Meg Kandarpa and Eli Pallrand were Open Champions. In addition, Amaar Jeyasothy and Dylan Young reached Finals and Simar Kohli and Ram Orfanel reached Semis. Three Cornell teams also appeared in Novice Finals: Jonathan Stolow and Kyra Teo, Gaveal Fan and Isabel Orlando, and Xinya Hu and Ben Shaw.
Cornell was recognized strongly in Speaker Awards, taking the top 4 places (in descending order: Meg, Dylan, Amaar, Eli). Ram also received top English as a Second Language (ESL) Speaker and 4th Novice.
Finally, Amanda Ma broke as a judge to panel Open Semi-finals.
The next weekend, 8 teams and 7 judges represented Cornell at the Robert Huber Debates in Vermont. 5 teams reached Open Semi-finals (Eli and Meg, Amaar and Dylan, Abigel Manaye and Izzy, Ram and Ben Kim, and Simar and Ben Goldberg). Simar and Ben Goldberg broke to Finals.
Cornell was recognized with speaker awards. In Open Speakers, Meg placed 3rd, Eli 4th, Amaar 6th and Dylan 8th. Ram finished 2nd in Novice and ESL Speaker, and Ben Kim finished 4th Novice and 3rd ESL.
Gayatri Somaiya broke as a judge to panel Novice Finals.
The Worlds Team also recognized seniors Gayatri, Amaar, Dylan, Simar, and Ben Goldberg who competed in their final tournament for Cornell.
