Speech team shows off their skills in Greece

Cornell returns with a world champion, a runner up, and multiple finalists!

From March 7th to 12th, the Cornell Speech team went across the pond to compete in Athens, Greece, at the International Forensics Association World Championship Tournament. While most competing teams sported a "full squad", Cornell brought just a quarter of their students. Despite this, the team still earned a 5th place finish in the Overall Team Sweepstakes. Each member of the team advanced to the outrounds of competition. Of the 15 semifinals, they advanced 8 entries to the finals.

In addition to multiple breaks from Calvin Carpenter, Hayden Watkins, and Sophia Gerrans, Anna Ceclia Fierro placed as the international runner-up in Informative Speaking, and Sofia Spillane earned a world championship in Prose Interpretation.

After these huge international successes, the Cornell Speech team is headed back to Ithaca to rest up.
