Policy Team clinches National Debate Tournament entry at Suffolk University

Matthew Dye and April Vorontsova qualify for the 80th annual National Debate Tournament!

This past weekend, Cornell traveled to compete in the District 8 tournament at Suffolk University in Boston. At this tournament, judges voted favorably for Cornell in debate rounds against Harvard University, the United States Military Academy, and Binghamton University. The varsity team competing, comprised of Matthew Dye (ILR ’26) and April Vorontsova (Arts & Sciences ’28), qualified for the 80th annual National Debate Tournament with these wins.

This coveted tournament will take place at the University of Houston in March. With only 78 teams nationally qualifying each year, the Cornell team is one of the 62 to clinch a spot so far. Throughout the year, Matthew Dye and April Vorontsova worked tirelessly to maintain the prerequisites for qualification, finishing the season by winning this guaranteed entry to the NDT over the weekend.

Congratulations to the team, who are currently preparing to take on the fiercest competition nationally at this year's NDT.
