Powering the Transition: Unions Explore Long-Term Energy Storage at Long Island Lunch-and-Learn
On Wednesday, January 21st, the Climate Jobs Institute hosted a lunch-and-learn session on energy storage on Long Island, bringing together 20 attendees from 11 unions in collaboration with Climate Jobs New York and the Long Island Federation of Labor.
Nathan Lamm, Senior Research Support Specialist with the Climate Jobs Institute, and Katie Hayden, Training and Education Associate, presented on long-term battery storage technology, its safety standards, and community integration, emphasizing the importance of community involvement to help attendees feel connected and valued in ongoing education.
CJI was also joined by Paul Rogers of the Energy Response group, an organization that advocates for increased safety standards, provides educational opportunities for local fire departments, and certifies and permits projects to ensure safety. Paul is also a retired FDNY Lieutenant with more than 25 years of experience. His experience and expertise enabled him to answer questions about safety concerns and to help participants understand how to combat misinformation about the use of batteries for large-scale energy storage.
This lunch-and-learn was the 5th in a series hosted by the Climate Jobs Institute and Climate Jobs New York, reinforcing a shared commitment to ongoing education on key topics for a just climate transition.
