Research Project: Precarious Workers Research Network Deanna Hall

My research is on tipped workers and the tip credit given to their employers. The NY State minimum wage for tipped food service workers, or the "subminimum wage" is $5.00. Raising tipped workers' take home pay would stabilize fluctuations in pay, reduce turnover in the restaurant industry, and relieve taxpayer's burdens. My research was used in a testimony to the NY State Wage Board in favor of eliminating the tip credit in NY State. Governor Cuomo's final decision on raising the NY State tipped minim wage is due in February.

I have gained a ton of legal and policy research experience on a current issue that is central to local and national economic equality strides. I have also increased my exposure to ILR faculty and staff, allowing me to create valuable relationships within the school.
