Q:What is the focus of the panel on which you are speaking?

A: I am speaking on the Precarious Work/Precarious Workers in the Construction, Fast - food, Arts and Entertainment Industry panel. My focus is on the precarious work force of the arts and entertainment industry and strategies for providing a social safety net for these workers.

Q:How does your current work or research connect to this panel?

A: This builds on my past and current research about the work force in this industry (2009 report to the Empire State Development Corporation with Maria Figueroa) and my previous published works on labor relations in this industry.

Q: What is significant about this work; how is it relevant to today’s issues in the workplace?

A: The experience of the arts and entertainment industry is significant in offering potential guidelines for other industries incr easing characterized by contingent work and low incomes.

A:Interaction with other panel participants and with those who attend the workshop should yield ideas for continuing research
