Cornell Speech Team wins 1st in District, hits 40 entries for Nationals
Winning by a landslide at home, the Speech Team shows their strength
On November 15th, Cornell Speech attended the AFA District 7 Fall Tournament, with our students winning 7 out of the 11 events. Niki Khare took first place in Persuasive Speaking, while Abhishek Gurubaskaran and Hayden Watkins collectively won Duo Interpreation. Individually, Abhishek Gurubaskaran won Program Oral Interpretation, and Hayden Watkins won After Dinner Speaking. Calvin Carpenter won both Informative Speaking and Prose Interpretation, and Charlotte Reitman won Impromptu Speaking. Combined with our other finalist, this earned Cornell Speech a first-place finish in Team Sweepstakes.
Most importantly, the team successfully qualified 15 events for nationals, bringing the team up to a collective 40 entries set to attend the AFA National Speech Tournament in April. In the meantime, Cornell Speech is looking forward to getting some well-deserved rest.
