Climate Jobs Institute Talks Workforce Development and Being a Union Partner at 2025 LIUNA Builds Renewables Summit

On Wednesday, September 10th, the Climate Jobs Institute (CJI) presented at the 2025 LIUNA Builds Renewables Summit. The conference, which takes place over two days, brings together over 100 labor leaders, workforce development professionals, and industry partners to learn and strategize on building a high road clean energy economy in New York. 

Melissa Shetler, Assistant Director of Labor Outreach and Workforce Equity, spoke on a panel about workforce development. Zach Cunningham, Assistant Director for Labor Education, presented along with Esther Rosario, Executive Director of Climate Jobs New York, about their projects and how they can be a resource and a partner to labor unions like LiUNA. The discussion, involving a wide range of stakeholders, took place at the Turning Stone Resort Casino on September 9-10th, and focused on advancing responsible renewable energy production in New York.

The Climate Jobs Institute has spoken previously at the conference. The annual LiUNA Builds Renewables Summit is organized by the New York State Laborers’ Union (LIUNA). It is a two-day event in Upstate New York for renewable energy professionals. It features networking, panels, and other activities, connecting solar installers, developers, government agencies, and others from New York and beyond.

CJI representatives included Assistant Director for Labor Education, Zach Cunningham; Assistant Director of Labor Outreach and Workforce Equity, Melissa Shetler; and Nathan Lamm, Senior Research Support Specialist.
