How do you desire to serve others, be a change maker, have an impact on the issues you care about and transform that into a meaningful public service career?
Supporting the next generation of government leaders!
Open to Cornell ILR undergraduates, the Democracy Summer Fellowship includes:
- Individual projects with a specific elected official
- Summer conference with elected and appointed officials to learn about career paths and the enduring importance of public office
- Engaged learning and research opportunities in public service alongside High Road Fellowship Issue policy forums with Cornell faculty and WNY elected officials
About the Program
Since 2019, the Democracy Summer Fellowship program has connected undergraduate students with elected officials. Each fellow undertakes an individual project while participating in workshops on government and public
service, gaining firsthand insight into how democracy functions in practice. They are paid a living wage for 8 weeks of work over the summer.
Every Friday, students come together to experience Buffalo’s civic and cultural life through neighborhood walking tours, field trips, cultural events, and conversations with guest experts and community leaders. These weekly gatherings also provide a space for fellows to learn from one another by sharing reflections, project updates, research and achievements.
Students can apply via the High Road Buffalo program page. Please indicate your interest in the Democracy Summer when completing the application.
