What is The Union Leadership Institute?
The New York State AFL-CIO/Cornell Union Leadership Institute prepares New York's union leaders to more effectively and strategically tackle the tough challenges now facing the labor movement.
The Institute is an intensive, one-year executive-level training program for current union leaders and top staff. While at the Institute, participants share ideas and common concerns, acquire new tools, sharpen skills, and connect with other leaders of the statewide New York labor movement. Our goal is to develop knowledgeable leaders who have the highest professional standards, and who think and act boldly- advancing the interests of their unions, councils, the labor movement, and all working people.
What is the Program?
The Institute's one-year program has three components: seminars, individual projects, and elective courses. Participants enter the Institute during the first week-long seminar in July on Cornell's Ithaca campus. They complete a series of four two-day seminars during the year, and then graduate at the conclusion of the second week-long seminar the following July.
