Cunningham facilitates Offshore Wind Training for IUOE Local 30

IUOE Local 1

On Wednesday, March 23rd, the Worker Institute’s Labor Leading on Climate Initiative delivered its latest “Climate Jobs and Offshore Wind (OSW)” training in partnership with Climate Jobs NY.

Worker Institute Extension Associate Zach Cunningham worked with Climate Jobs NY’s Mariah Dignan and leaders from the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 30 to deliver the training to roughly 100 members, leaders, and apprentices at the union’s training facility in Queens. Participants came from throughout New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester and Rockland Counties.

IUOE Local 30 members learned about current offshore wind projects in New York and discussed areas of potential job growth amongst their members.  They also explored the benefits of clean energy to the climate and their communities.

This was the largest offshore wind training delivered yet, and the first held entirely in person.  Other workshops are scheduled in the coming months, including a session with a Steamfitters local next week.
