The ILR faculty believes that full-time study for a defined period best promotes intellectual development and best prepares students for citizenship and careers. Consequently, all ILR students are required to complete eight semesters of full-time study. This can include work done while on an approved credit internship or study abroad program. Transfer students are required to complete four to six semesters of full-time study depending on the number of transferable credit hours they completed at previous institutions.
AP or IB test credit can be used for a maximum of 12 Cornell credits, but cannot be used to accelerate graduation. Additionally, summer session classes, winter session classes or any other transferrable credits taken outside a full-time fall or spring semester cannot be used to accelerate graduation. Approved credit overages in any Cornell semester cannot be used to advance a student’s class year or accelerate graduation.
