Increasing Employment Opportunities for People with Criminal Records (LEL-CJ410)

Providing second chances to those with criminal records is becoming increasingly attractive and necessary as the labor pool tightens.  Complex criminal records and existing law create information gaps and gray areas for employers seeking workers and justice-involved individuals seeking employment.  In this workshop, we will discuss some of these issues, including fear of negligent hiring lawsuits; how to evaluate a candidate with a criminal record; legal issues; understanding background checks; and Ban the Box requirements.
