Overview

Conflict in the workplace can be a symptom of unresolved problems or faulty systems, but managed well, conflict can also be a source of creativity and innovation. This certificate series will equip you with the analytical frameworks and skills to play a productive role in managing your organization’s conflicts.

Each workshop uses realistic workplace scenarios to challenge you to diagnose the sources, levels, and dimensions of conflicts, determine how to best address each type of conflict, and practice the skills necessary to play a variety of roles in conflict management.

Prerequisites

The eCornell Conflict Resolution Certificate is required to be completed prior to starting this certificate.

However, if you are a highly experienced professional, we will consider an established set of pre-work in place of the eCornell Conflict Resolution Certificate. This is to ensure that there is shared language and approaches once you enter the Advanced Skills for Manaing Workplace Conflict Certificate.

Learn techniques, tools, processes and skills for facilitating conflict using a collaborative problem solving approach for resolving one-on-one conflicts. Topics and tools focus on problem solving, listening and messaging skills, conflict styles, neutral issue statements, de-escalating emotions, developing options, facilitating and gaining commitment.

Through role-plays and simulations, gain insight into your own negotiation biases, weaknesses and strengths, and build negotiation confidence and competency. Participants learn how to plan a negotiation strategy and practice communication skills necessary to showcase underlying needs and interests. Positional and interest-based negotiation skills are explored.

Diversity, Equity, and Cross-Cultural Approaches to Conflict Engagement

Examine the roles culture and diversity play in conflict and conflict resolution. Participants will learn to understand how differences are perceived in conflict exchanges. Activities focus on cross-cultural communication techniques to enhance conflict resolution. Dispute resolution methods, perception process and attribution theory are key discussion points.
