Favorite part about the program
MILR is both an incredibly intimate and high-profile program. From this you get the really get to know your peers in the program and foster a life-long network. On top of that, you have invaluable executive exposure. It seems like every week there is a new opportunity to interact with a HR senior vice president, senior mediator, or a director of a non-profit. Those interactions provide you a study of what are the current best practices for your field of interest.
Training and Development with Professor Brad Bell. As someone who was involved in the learning and development function prior to graduate school and is currently involved in mentoring and coaching students, learning about the current research trends and recommendations in the world of employee development has been illuminating. The incredible guest speakers also shed reality and insight on the scholarship we study.
Something you like about Ithaca
The unique blend of the cosmopolitan charms of Ithaca combined with the natural beauty of being in the Finger Lakes. For example I recently took a Water Skiing class through Cornell and Ithaca is likely one of the few places anywhere I could do that.
Advice for prospective/incoming student
Connect with as many current students you can. That will be the best way to get a sense of the what the program really is about and figure out if it is truly for you.
Summer internship and location
Ecolab in Saint Paul, MN as part of their Human Resources Leadership Development Program
What is the highlight from your summer internship?
Connecting with so many Cornell and MILR alumni at Ecolab. We have built up quite the alumni network at Ecolab recently and it was cool to see the power of the alumni network come to life this past summer.
