Overview

Nicholas Occhiuto is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Organizational Behavior at Cornell University’s ILR School. He received his PhD in sociology from Yale University. He received his MA in sociology from Columbia University, and his BA in sociology and philosophy from New York University.

Nicholas’ research interests include economic sociology, non-market strategy, and work and occupations. His research has appeared in Social Forces, Annual Review of Sociology, and Work and Occupations.

His dissertation was an in-depth qualitative study of corporate political activity and regulatory change in the highly regulated taxi industries in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Austin between July 2010 and May 2016 — after Uber and other Transportation Network Companies introduced their innovative app-based dispatch products to these four cities.
