In 2009, Unison ran a campaign against the British National Party (BNP) as the European elections were held. Targeting Polish workers (the largest European migrant worker group in the UK) through Polish media, associations, and social and educational events, this campaign set out to increase political participation and activism among Polish migrants. This campaign also strengthened the ties between the union and Polish organizations and is considered a first attempt by Unison to engage Polish workers beyond the workplace.
