Project Sandy- Labor, Environment and Sustainable Development

Describe your research project: I am working with Lara Skinner and Sean Sweeney to research green energy policies that promote jobs as well as help the environment. The project researches potential changes that are necessary in our shift to a greener economy. Project Sandy looks at the economic effect of environmental policy and determines the impact that government policy has on job growth.

What have you gotten out of the experience so far? I have become so much more aware of the United States' transition to a greener economy and have become very intrigued with the role that government intervention plays in facilitating this transition. I was not aware of the significant role that state subsidies and tax breaks have in driving investment into renewable energy.

What kind of student might be interested in a research fellowship at the Worker Institute? I would recommend a research fellowship at the Worker Institute to anyone who is interested in making a difference through research. This research opportunity differs from many others because it focuses not simply on policy, but policies' effect on people. If you are interested in making a difference in people's lives, the Worker Institute is a fantastic place to go about that goal.
