"Responses to Neo-Liberalism"

Professor Rick Hurd is coeditor of “The International Handbook of Labour Unions: Responses to Neo-Liberalism.”

Since the 1970s, the spread of free market neo-liberal economic policies across the globe has radically reconfigured the relationship between unions, employers and the state, according to the book, which examines unions' efforts in many of the leading economies of the world.

The proliferation of neo-liberal policies is a major factor in union decline, the book’s contributors say. They argue that if there is to be any union revitalization and return to former levels of influence, unions need to respond in appropriate political and practical ways.

Hurd edited the book with Gregor Gall, professor of industrial relations at the University of Hertfordshire in England, and Adrian Wilkinson. Wilkinson is director of the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing and professor of employment relations, both at Griffith University in Australia.
