The Maker Movement: Finding Meaning in Work

In 2004, Mark Frauenfelder was asked to put together a new kind of magazine that would combine a DIY ethos and technology. His idea, Make, has inspired a movement around the world. From new kinds of organizations (Maker Spaces), gatherings (Maker Faire), to companies (Maker Bot), maker-ism celebrates individual creativity and the pleasure of producing. Frauenfelder, founding editor-in-chief of MAKE Magazine, research director at the Institute for the Future, and co-founder of Boing Boing, talks about what Makerism means in the 21st century and why it is so necessary as we rethink the future of work, as part of the ILR School's Future of Work series.
