Leadership Role

Alex Bores '13 begins a two-year term this spring as undergraduate representative to the Cornell Board of Trustees.

"The first thing I will be pursuing is an additional undergraduate seat to the board of trustees," he said.

Bores ran on a platform calling for administrative transparency, proactive mental health support for students and quality of life.

The Cornell Office of Assemblies announced Bores's win Thursday. He defeated five candidates.

He will be one of 64 trustees who help determine university policy direction.

As president of Cornell's chapter of United Students Against Sweatshops, he accepted a Sol Stetin Award in 2010 from the American Labor Museum.

In recent years, the Cornell chapter and others across the country have successfully urged hundreds of colleges to sell clothing made by workers paid fair wages.

On campus, Bores researches union organizing drives with ILR Professor Kate Bronfenbrenner, is president of Phi Alpha Delta, a pre-law fraternity, and serves as vice president of Cornell Half-in-Ten, an anti-poverty organization.
