Collaborative Project in Asia

Richard D. Fincher '73, executive director of the Scheinman Institute's Asia Labor Arbitration Project, has received a Fulbright Specialist Program Award.

In January, he begins teaching for the spring semester in the School of Labor Relations at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City.

An arbitrator and mediator who has taught arbitration and mediation to hundreds of Cornell students through ILR's Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, Fincher is also a scholar of labor mediation and arbitration in East Asia.

His research in Vietnam for the U.S. Agency for International Development focused on alternative dispute resolution and understanding wildcat labor strikes.

The Fulbright Specialist Program promotes collaborations between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas.

The program is part of the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international exchange program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
