ILR students have many opportunities to attend Worker Institute organized and sponsored events in Ithaca, New York City, Buffalo, Rochester and Albany. These events include: panels, colloquia, conferences and seminars.
Organized by Kate Bronfenbrenner as a project of the Worker Institute, the Labor Roundtable brings 20-25 leaders from unions and workers organizations to Cornell for a full day of intensive career-oriented interaction with interested students. Held on the main campus, this program is recommended for students who are interested in careers in labor, social justice and related areas.
Worker Institute Colloquium
Each semester the Worker Institute organizes two or three colloquia to highlight the work of our initiative groups and signature projects. Typically three-hour Friday morning events held on campus, colloquia feature a rich array of speakers and panelists and bring faculty and students together to discuss issues of common interest.
Union Days and Social Justice Career Fair
Organized by Worker Institute faculty and ILR students every April, this event brings top labor leaders to ILR to speak the most pressing issues facing workers and the labor movement. The three day event includes multiple panels and presentations, informal discussions with students and a social justice career fair that typically brings more than 20 representatives from labor and social justice organizations to campus to recruit ILR students.
