This one-year certificate program is jointly sponsored by the NYS AFL-CIO, the national AFL-CIO and the Worker Institute at Cornell. The Institute combines seminars, fieldwork, and mentoring and carries 12 units of college credit. The curriculum consists of eight seminars over the time period and focuses on skills and competencies identified by unions as essential components of effective leadership.
Institute applicants must currently hold significant positions of leadership in their unions (i.e., elected or appointed officers or staff), be nominated and sponsored by their unions or central labor bodies, and make a time commitment to the Institute program.
