Immigrant Workforce
The U.S. is a nation of immigrants. As with other industrialized democracies of the world, the U.S. is a powerful magnet to the many people around the globe experiencing oppression and want. Immigration trends have been and are still related to economic and political opportunities.
Today, as in times past, immigration is changing the workforce and workplace. Immigrants now make up more than 12% of the U.S. population and 15% of the civilian labor force. In some major U.S. cities, immigrants represent nearly half, if not more, of the local workforce.
WIED experts focus on the impact these new Americans have on workforce development, workplace skill requirements, changes in society, as well as changes in immigration policy and its relationship to the demand for labor.
