New York’s Big Picture: Assessing New York’s Position in Film, Television and Commercial Production
WIED faculty, in conjunction with researchers from Cornell City and Regional Planning and the Fiscal Policy Institute, recently completed a study of New York State’s film industry, entitled New York’s Big Picture.
New York State has always been a favorite location for film, television and commercial production with numerous advantages as a site not only for location shooting, but for all phases of the production process as well. New York City, a creative hub and primary center for acting talent and all occupations related to media production, boasts a wide array of production facilities and business services specializing in the entertainment industry.
New York’s Big Picture is designed to build on these assets and assess trends in production, employment and location as a means for understanding how the broader trends in media entertainment and advertising are playing out in New York State. The goal of the study is to provide all interested parties with critical information and analysis that can guide policies to insure the future of these key industries in New York State.
The study was publicly released in a premier event in Buffalo, New York, in February 2007.
