Remote File Access Using Web Folders

Using Internet Explorer (IE) 5.x or higher, you can securely access your server files at home or on the road, using Web Folders. Web Folders will enable you to upload, modify, delete or rename your files. To access Web Folders, open IE and enter; https://webfolders.ilr.cornell.edu in the address bar.

You will be asked to login. Use your Windows login ID (usually your NetID) and password. However, you must enter “ilr\” before your NetID (see below) in order for the login to succeed.

ILR Web Folders Login

Once you have successfully logged in, the Web Folders web page will identify you, and your available shared folders should be displayed. Simply click on the link to the desired share and another window will open.

From here, you can copy, paste, delete and rename files just as though you were on the server at work. And, if your computer has Office 2000 or higher installed, you can open, modify and save files.

Web Folders File Display

NOTE: Microsoft Access does not support opening databases via web folders. You may circumvent this limitation by copying the .mdb file to your PC, making changes, and then copying the file back to the server.

When you are finished using web folders, be sure to close all Internet Explorer windows to ensure no one gains access to your files.
