Symantec AntiVirus Use on Home Computers
Symantec AntiVirus can be installed on any university-owned computer as well as home computers owned by registered students or currently employed staff and faculty. If your affiliation with Cornell ends, you must remove this software from any computers you own.
Detailed information on this policy can be found on CIT's website.
Symantec Antivirus can be set up as a managed service even if you are at a remote location, such as your home. By configuring SAV to be managed, virus definition updates will be automatically installed and scheduled scans of your system will be done with no action required by you.
To set up SAV as a managed service, obtain a copy of our grc.dat file from ILR Technology Services. Copy this file to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5 folder. (You may need to be logged into an Administrator account.) The change will automatically take effect sometime within 10 minutes of copying the file to the proper location.
To verify the change took effect, open Symantec AntiVirus. You will find this option under Start --> All Programs --> Symantec Client Security.
The parent server should be listed as HUMMINGBIRD. Additionally, the virus definitions should have a recent date.
